Woman and man squatting in front of Christmas tree with golden retriever

Goldie

January 4, 2022 – Eleven year old Goldie came to AGB after her devoted owner passed away. The owner’s nephew told us that Goldie was mentioned more than anyone at the funeral and that he learned of a time that Goldie rescued her mom. He said “I learned at the funeral that Goldie actually rescued my aunt once. Her doctor told me that she fell in her backyard and couldn’t get up. Goldie went over by her and started howling. A neighbor heard Goldie and jumped the fence to help my aunt. She is a special girl.” When Goldie first came to AGB, she was scared and confused, but she was placed with a loving foster (Thank you so much, Sharon!) who doted on her during her short wait for an adopter. A young couple from south Alabama saw her picture and knew they wanted to give her a wonderful home for the rest of her life. They have showered Goldie with love, and she has settled in and is enjoying her life. She’s already been to get ice cream and on adventures to the beach. This special couple found the former owner’s obituary and asked that we share the last paragraph. We are honored to share it and to be part of Goldie’s story. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in the name of Jacquelyn Jones in honor of Goldie to the Chattahoochee Valley Humane Society in Valley, Alabama or a religious or charitable organization of your choice.

Original Adoption Post

Hello good friends. My name is Goldie. I am an 11 year old lovely lady weighing 85 lbs. Recently my owner passed away and there was no one in the family who could care for me. Luckily, AGB was contacted and took me in right away. I am very grateful for the care and the commitment to find me a loving forever home, but I will admit I have been scared and confused with all the changes in my life recently. I was with my owner since I was a puppy, so I have never had to deal with things like this and I have been very sad. I am a sweet and loving girl, who makes friends easily with people and other dogs. I have never been around cats. I am looking for a new family to love me and care for me all the rest of my days. In return I will be the most loyal best friend you could ask for and I will provide you with so much love and joy. If you are looking to add a loving, elegant Golden Girl to your family, please submit an application to adopt me, Goldie. PS… Since I am over 10, I qualify for the Seniors to Seniors program, which waives adoption fees for adopters 65 years and older.
