Jack
As a dog rescue, specifically a Golden Retriever rescue, we sometimes get asked why we have mixes and occasionally, like Jack, a dog with no obvious Golden Retriever in him. We like to think that all the dogs have Golden hearts-it is so difficult to turn dogs away from intake knowing they might never have a chance in a shelter.
Jack came in as a stray from a shelter in Marshall County. He was thin and obviously had been on his own for a while. He had his quirks and was in several different foster homes before he found his forever family. Thanks to the help of trainer Anthony Rodriguez and lots of patience and love and understanding from his new family, Jack has finally found his forever home.
There have been bumps along the road, but with a lot of patience from his family and help from Anthony, one of our trainers, he has turned a corner and is home. He has been able to graduate to being off-leash for very short periods of time in the yard, which is a major triumph. He is a lover but shy with new people. He has started adjusting to strangers in the home without taking a long time to acclimate. His mom says he loves his treats and is still a huge fan of cheese. He loves his ball, and he loves resting his head or paw in your lap. And he loves his family-the parents, all the kids, and their extended family have embraced this boy and seen the heart beneath the quirks.
We are so thankful for the shelters that take these unwanted dogs in, for our fosters that work tirelessly, for all the volunteers that work behind the scenes, for our trainers that help us with the quirky ones, and for the adopters who give dogs like Jack a chance at a real home.
